Market turnover up 16% at Uganda stock exchange

Volumes dealt through the week under review jumped to 6 million shares from 3 million shares. Only six counters were active during the week. 

Market turnover up 16% at Uganda stock exchange

Uganda Securities Exchange (USE) market turnover rose 16.3% to sh522m from last week’s sh499m according to data from a licensed stockbroker.  

Volumes dealt through the week under review jumped to 6 million shares from 3 million shares. Only six counters were active during the week. 

Umeme commanded 62.09% of the deal value with sh324m from 1.6 million shares trailed by MTN with sh122m in turnover from 669,384 shares.  

Uganda Clays Limited (UCL) dealt sh44m from 2.9 million shares, Bank of Baroda (BOBU) moved sh19m from 231,773 shares and CiplaQCIL (CQCIL) was the least traded with sh0.59m from 9,000 shares.   

UCL led the week’s laggards with its share price dropping by 11.76% to sh15, CQCIL lost 7.14% to sh65 and MTN shed 1.56% to sh187.  

Other active counter prices remained unchanged with Umeme at sh200, BOBU at sh85 and Stanbic at sh21. 

Among the cross listings, Centum Investments advanced by 2.64% on its share price followed by Jubilee Holdings with 2.57% and Equity group Holdings added 1.38%.   

Nation Media group led the losers declining by 4.41%, East African Breweries Limited came next losing 3.19% and KCB group shed 3.04% on its share price.
