CitiBank’s Sarah Arapta is new UBA chairperson

CitiBank Uganda chief executive Sarah Arapta has been elected as the new chairperson of the executive committee at the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA).

UBA is an umbrella body for supervised financial institutions by the Bank of Uganda.

The association is made up of 26 commercial banks, two development banks and eight Tier II and Tier III financial institutions.

Arapta was elected during UBA’s annual general members' meeting held on May 13.

She has been Mathias Katamba’s vice chairperson for the last two years (2020 and 2021) at UBA. Katamba is the chief executive at Dfcu.

According to a statement by the association, the new Arapta-led committee will have PostBank's chief executive Julius Kakeeto, as the vice chairperson. 

Shem Kakembo, chief executive of EFC Uganda, is the treasurer. Raj Kumar Meena, chief executive Bank of Baroda is the auditor while Olalekan Sanusi, chief executive Guaranty Trust Bank and James Onyutta, chief executive FINCA are committee members.
