Kyenjojo district has recorded the highest number of murder cases according to statistics from the Rwenzori Regional Police report.

The Rwenzori Police region is made up of the districts of Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Kabarole, Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, Bunyangabu, Bundibugyo, Ntoroko and Fort Portal city.

Rwenzori Police region spokesperson Vincent Twesigye on Tuesday said in the first quarter of the crime report for the year 2023, Kyenjojo recorded a total of 24 murder cases.

Kyegegwa came in the second position with 16 murder cases followed by Kamwenge district (12).

Ntoroko and Bundibugyo districts recorded the least number of murder cases with three each.

“Most of these murders are as a result of mob justice, while for other cases, victims are killed and dumped,” Twesigye said.

Land disputes and domestic violence have also been cited as major contributors to the increasing number of murder cases in the region.

He disclosed that for quite a number of murder cases, Police are still carrying out investigations.

“Unfortunately, some members of the community still believe in murder as a solution to the problem at hand yet not,” Twesigye said.

He urged the public to take full advantage of family and government structures to solve their grievances.

“The Government has established structures right from the village level to be able to handle peoples’ concerns. And if they fail, Police are always available to intervene,” Twesigye said while condemning the increased murder cases in the community.
