The territorial Police in Gomba district are hunting for a 29-year-old man suspected of murdering his wife and dumping her body in a neighbour's garden.

It is alleged that Kwagala Kaweesi, a resident of Jumbi village in Mpenja sub-county, made a phone call to his wife to pick up sugar he had bought for her and that was the last time she was seen alive.

The deceased, identified as Fausta Nantumbwe, 28, had developed misunderstandings with her purported husband and decided to leave him and go live with her mother in the same village.

The gruesome incident occurred on Sunday, June 4, at around 9:00 pm according to reports.

Fred Yiga, the Jumbi village chairperson, said the suspect had a criminal record and was a threat to the village.

“He has always been a threat to the village and a known drug abuser. Recently, we received a complaint from his wife concerning domestic violence and we advised her to report to the Police," Yiga said.

Abdul Ssempebwa, the village vice-chairman, said they received very many cases in the village court against Kaweesi and despite several warnings, his conduct hasn’t changed.

Nantumbwe’s body was recovered in a coffee garden adjacent to her husband's home and about a kilometre from her mother's home, with a flesh wound on her left leg and bruises around her neck.

The body was conveyed to Gombe Hospital mortuary for an autopsy and later handed over to the family for burial.

Angry residents descended on Kaweesi’s house and razed it down, before proceeding to his father's house located about two kilometres away and razed part of it.

Katonga regional Police spokesperson, Lydia Tumushabe, said the Police have launched a manhunt for Kaweesi and called on the community to help with its investigations by providing the news concerning his whereabouts.
