The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar is here with us. It is by far, perhaps the greatest global sports event.

Matches are started, November 20th and will run through the December 18th final.

As an entrepreneur, have you thought of the immense business opportunities this great global soccer bonanza can offer?

You probably have heard about the famous Vuvuzelas that became a house name at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. A Chinese plastic manufacturer (Jiying Plastic company based in Zhejiang Province) named Wu Yijun saw an opportunity to manufacture the vuvuzelas when South Africa was awarded the 2010 World Cup.

Over 5 million vuvuzelas were sold in the 2010 World Cup, and today tens of millions are sold.

This is an example of how a global sports bonanza like the World Cup can generate many great business opportunities.

Why can’t you here, as an entrepreneur, take advantage of this big event? We are reminded that one of the key qualities for entrepreneurial success is to always be “Alert”.

From selling sporting goods & souvenirs e.g. soccer balls, team jerseys, bracelets, hats, key rings, posters, banners, and mugs with photos of soccer stars going to feature to the selling of advertising calendars for matches, this would be a good opportunity to tap into the event.

Printing well-designed calendars with dates of the matches is a good business.

Are you into solar equipment? Stimulate the demand for solar equipment by reminding soccer fans about the frequent load shedding so as not to miss out on the world cup matches.

Another ingenious business is making posters or albums with protagonists of the various teams that are going to the future. Selling advertising time during games on TV is another where companies would want to position their brand around the World Cup.

The sale of food with a soccer atmosphere e.g. delicious food, good drinks and a big TV screen accompanied by your best friends is another.

One could decorate the venue with World Cup materials in order to create that big soccer atmosphere, alongside this, running a promotional campaign e.g. “If your team wins, you win a free drink.”

You can also create an interesting website or blog about the World Cup and sell adverts on them.

There are many other opportunities out there. Creativity is the only limit. Please, I encourage you, to go out there and take advantage of these countless great opportunities during the World Cup period. Good luck and may the best team win!
