WAKISO | UPDF | NABASA | APPOINTED

Brig. Gen. Peter Akankunda Nabasa has been appointed as the new deputy commander of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) first division.

Tuesday in Kakiri Barracks, Wakiso Town District, Nabasa who has been working in the UPDF Third Division was given the office.

Brig. Gen. Joseph Ssemwanga, the first division commander, was present as Col. James Rukundo, who had been serving in an acting capacity, handed him the instruments of office.

Ssemwanga asked Nabasa to feel at home and that he is ready to work with him in his opening remarks.

Ssemwanga stated, "Am ready to work with you and I believe you will bring peace to the people of Uganda because UPDF is all about people.

Ssemwanga made the point that the president, who serves as the chief commander of the UPDF, wants to ensure that the people of Uganda are safe and that as commanders, they must try to make that happen.

Nabasa complimented President Museveni on the elevation and said he wasn't prepared for it.

The division as a whole and Nabasa's other commanders at various levels would enjoy strong working relationships, he vowed.

He emphasized that because he had worked with the UPDF for so long, he had plenty of expertise in leading troops.

According to Major Charles Kabona, the spokesman for the UPDF first division, Nabasa was a Colonel before being appointed and the commander of 403 brigades.

According to Kabona, Col. James Rukundo has been serving as acting deputy commander since Brig. Gen. Joseph Ssemwanga was named commander of the first division following the departure of Brig. Gen. Sam Kawagga.

Nabasa is a team player, according to Kabona, who claimed that he has high hopes for his ability to serve.

However, Kabona reminded the public, particularly those who were robbing individuals while wearing UPDF uniforms, that anyone caught in that line would be sent to the UPDF court martial.
