Uganda’s oil rig has arrived at Mombasa Port, Kenya, marking a critical step toward the country’s oil and gas development phase.
The rig is reported to have left Yantai Port, China on July 29, 2022, according to China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).
“Steps to first oil." CNOOC's Kingfisher oilfield rig reaches Mombasa port and will soon be in Uganda. "We are committed to delivering first oil to Uganda and there’s no turning back,” the oil firm said in a tweet.
Well, pad development works are currently ongoing at the Kingfisher Oil Development Area in the Hoima district. The rig will be moved from one well pad to another, according to officials.
In August, Zack Lubega, the CNOOC head of corporate affairs, told New Vision in an interview: “The expected arrival of the rig is mid-October." It will be assembled immediately on arrival in Uganda. "
Lubega said the equipment will then be commissioned, inspected, and tested in November, and that the first well will be drilled in December 2022.
The Kingfisher project involves a planned Central Processing Facility (CPF) with a capacity of 40,000 barrels of oil per day and drilling 31 wells to be drilled on four well pads.
The project is planned to have 16 kilometers of flow lines and a 55-kilometer feeder pipeline from the CPF in Kikuube district to the export hub and refinery at Kabaale in Hoima district.
The current development in the sector also provides enormous business opportunities for local companies and employment opportunities for Ugandans.
