MAKERERE University’s former Chancellor, Prof. Mondo Kagonyera will preside over a two-day graduation ceremony of Kampala University, starting Wednesday morning; in an event to be televised live on Bukedde TV.

 

Kagonyera is currently the Chancellor of Kampala University.

 

These will be the 17th and 18th graduation ceremonies of Kampala University.

 

The other graduation ceremony will be held Thursday 29th April 2021, at the same Campus (Ggaba) starting at 8:00 am.

 

The Chief Guest will be His Royal Highness the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV.

 

The Vice-Chancellor and promoter of the university, Prof. Badru Kateregga says, “It is important to notify you all, that for the last 22 years, the University has been holding Graduation Ceremonies with the physical presence of graduands, however, in conformity with the Ministry of Health SOPs and guidelines, these functions will be virtual in nature, telecasted live on Bukedde TV1 and streamed live on the University’s social media platforms.”

 

He added, in a statement that it is only students who passed with first class degrees accompanied by one parent each that will attend this function physically.

 

The 17th Graduation Ceremony is for students who were supposed to graduate in April 2020 but management deferred the occasion due to the lockdown, and the 18th Graduation is for students who successfully completed their studies in the Academic year 2020 /2021.

 

He added, “I wish to report to you that a total of 2673 graduands will be awarded certificates, diplomas, and conferred with Bachelors and Master’s Degrees in various accredited programmes.”

 

He also noted that out of the total graduating figure of the 17th Congregation, 1674 are male representing 66.3%, while 999 are female representing 37.3%, and 17 graduands passed with first-class Degrees.

 

“For the 18th Congregation, the total is 2,850 graduands and out of this figure, 1810 are male while 1040 are females,” Prof. Kateregga explains.

 

The graduands are from the faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Arts and Social Sciences, Education, Industrial Art and Design, Agriculture and Natural Science and school of post-graduate studies.

 

The graduands hail from Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Somalia, Nigeria, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Congo, Liberia, and Djibouti
