The construction of Mbale Regional Referral Hospital’s surgical complex has resumed, according to the Ministry of Health’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Diana Atwiine.

Atwine posted pictures of the ongoing works at the site on Thursday, noting that the complex once complete, will be equipped to handle specialized and other surgeries referred from around the region.

“The facility will house 12 theatres and 250 beds,” she said.

Last year, the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament tasked the hospital officials to explain why the construction works at the site had stalled.

Construction of the sh20bn complex started in 2016.

In response, the hospital’s directors said they had been hit by limited funding.
