Nemostars have received $1000 (sh3.6m) from Lakhani Motors ahead of their quarter-final match against Libyan outfit Swehly on Friday.

The money is geared towards helping the team contribute to their $7000 debt.

“As Lakhani Group of Companies, we believe in supporting and developing local talent. To push it on the continent as well as the international stage. Sports is an integral part of our lives and its development is key to our investments and businesses in Uganda,” said Fazal Karim the managing director of Fitness Junction, one of the Lakhani Group of Companies brands.

Nemostars are flying high at the Africa Club Championships but that could be dented if they fail to clear their $7000 (sh25m) accommodation balance while in Tunisia.

“We had raised $15000 (sh54m) and we still had $7000 (sh25m) to come up with. Which is mostly for accommodation and food and when we haven’t paid. They want to throw us out of the hotel. This contribution is a very big deal,” said club patron Neko-Muduse Ojala on receiving the money.

The club is still looking for $6000 (sh21m). Word from Tunis is that the team is in good condition but the pending threat of possibly being thrown out before clearing their hotel bill is driving the club to the wall.

“We have been winning the league in the last eight years and whenever we do we feel it is incumbent on these young people to compete at the continental level. So every year it’s stressful for me particularly as a top administrator at the club to look for the dollars to go and compete,” Ojala said.
