Women’s rugby sides renew their rivalry in the 10-a-side version of the sport at Entebbe Works Ground on Sunday.

Regina Lunyolo the women's rugby representative at the Uganda Rugby Union confirmed the development saying that the tournament is meant to prepare for the return of rugby.

“We could not start with the 15s league because it is very expensive and physical. So we opted for the 10s tournament to first prepare them to regain their fitness levels and ball-handling skills,” Lunyolo said.

“The one-day tournament will be held for three consecutive weeks to build consistency in the players and create awareness to the public that we have resumed our activities as women,” she added.

Lunyolo also added that a year without rugby because the coronavirus pandemic had a far-reaching impact on the women more than the men.

The tournament will also help the national team coach to identify upcoming talents.
