Road tests for Uganda’s first homemade diesel bus, dubbed the Kayoola Diesel Coach (KDC), have begun.

Ruth Nasejje, the media strategist for Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) told New Vision that the road tests began on Monday within Luwero Industries Ltd, where the vehicles are built from.

The road drills, she explained, are intended at ensuring that every part of the bus functions well and in case of any shortfall; it’s addressed early before the vehicle is put on the road.

“Road drills started within Luwero Industries Limited where the buses have been built. Roadshows will be around Nakasongola Town before the end of this week,” she said.

The bus, built by Uganda automobile engineers and UPDF engineers attached to the Luweero Industries Limited, has an in-built wash water bathroom with dressing mirror and a washbasin.

As part of the accessories, the coach has an inbuilt refrigerator, cameras for the safety of passengers. It is designed with two classes of passengers, one for the executive, and an ordinary wing for the non-VIP.

The executive wing is closer to the driver, with ample spacing and relatively wider seats while the non-executive wing on the other hand, is similar to the economy class in the aviation industry.
