A Rwandan has allegedly been stabbed by a fellow Rwandan over sh5,000 on Ssese Island in Kalangala district.

The deceased, who has been identified as Fideri Nihetegeka, 45, was stabbed to death by Suliyaani Kwefaho, 25, over his failure to pay a debt of sh5,000 he used to buy alcohol.

The two have been silverfish fishermen working for Justine Namuguma at Mawaala landing site, Mazinga sub-county in Kalangala district.

Namuguma said the duo (Kwefaho and Nihetegeka) was involved in a scuffle on Friday (March 17) night though it didn’t last for long.

“We didn’t discover that he had stabbed his colleague, but on Saturday at 5:00am, we heard him calling neighbours [crying for help], which forced me to go to their rental wooden house,” Namuguma said.

She added that Kwefaho was found seated on a bed beside Nihetegeka’s body which lay halfway on the same bed with a knife below the left collarbone.

Residents condemned the murder and several claimed that both were drunk by the time the incident happened.

James Nandu Mugoya in charge of community policing at Kalangala Central Police Station, said: "We are investigating the incident involving Rwandans in a scuffle that resulted in injuries and death of one of them".

"We appeal to landing site leaders to register every fisherman within their area of jurisdiction for easy identification of lawbreakers," he added.

Third incident in one week

The latest stabbing follows one that happened three days earlier after Rwandans were involved in a scuffle with the Police. The scuffle left Kasekulo Police post detective harked to death with a panga.

In the same week, a Rwandan national was stabbed with a knife in the eye at Lwaazi-Bubeke landing site and currently, he is nursing wounds at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital.

Second Rwandan stabbed to death

Paul Ndyatukunda, 17 was accused of stabbing Emmanuel Ntezeryayo, 27, over alcohol at Lwaazi-Bubeke landing site in Bubeke sub-county.

Police have confirmed the death of this fisherman which occurred as a result of a stabbing and allowed residents to bury him.
