A mother in Kibuku district is in custody for allegedly killing her 10-year-old biological son, for stealing money.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Sala zone, Kirika sub-county, on January 24, 2023, when the angry mother identified as Tolofina Kanye, 49, pounced on her son, Badru Kuna, for stealing sh20,000 from another person and using it to buy a radio.

According to Police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the mother was arrested for aggressively punishing her son.

“The circumstances are that on January 24, 2023, the mother of the victim found out that her son had actually stolen sh20,000, which he used to  buy a small radio he was listening to,” he said.

Enanga added that when the complainant approached the victim's mother about the indiscipline of her son “the mother got a stick and started beating the son and hit her at the back of the head where there is a pressure point”.

This, Enanga said, caused the victim to collapse and die instantly.

Enanga who was addressing journalists at the weekly joint security briefing at the police headquarters on Monday warned parents of using corporal punishments.

“Caning, punching and kicking children is not good. So, you can imagine that now we are arresting a mother for the murder of her own son. It is a double loss, double jeopardy,” he said
