Ssezibwa Regional Police Spokesperson Hellen Butoto said a concrete ceiling of a building loaded with boxes containing plastics collapsed, injuring four people who at the time of the incident were working in the factory.

“The Territorial Police in Njeru Municipality Buikwe district is investigating circumstances under which a building collapsed on workers at Gold Star Battery killing one Rajeshibhai Shekhara an Indian and injuring four people.

It's alleged that a concrete ceiling of a building loaded with boxes containing plastics collapsed at Gold Star injuring four people who at the time of the incident were working in the factory.

Rajeshibhai an Indian was rushed to Nile International hospital in Jinja city and one Catherine Atieno who was also in a critical condition and others were rushed to Kamu Kamu Medical Centre in Jinja city,” Butoto said.

She noted that the Indian national was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital

“Body of the deceased still in the hospital for postmortem. Investigations into the matter is ongoing,” Butoto added.

The incident occurred at around midday. Police was forced to use teargas to disperse a rowdy crowd of relatives that wanted to break into the factory to try and rescue their relatives.

By press time several ambulances could be seen rushing the injured to Kawolo General Hospital for emergency treatment.
