Campaigns for Omoro County by-elections intensify as candidates opt to go to gardens as they look for support.

"I have opted to campaign garden to garden due to the fact that this is a rainy season where many of our people during the morning hours are in the garden," said Jimmy Walter Onen one of the Independent candidates in the race.

The soft-spoken Onen , who is running as an independent candidate is also a  National Resistance Movement  (NRM) leaning candidate.

He said they have two days to campaign and if one waits until 3:00 pm when people are back from the garden they cannot accomplish their mission of becoming a Member of Parliament.

Onen who was accompanied by his wife,  Shiellah Ainembabazi campaigned in Omoro Town Council, Akidi, and Lakwana sub-counties.

The elections for the Omoro County seat are scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

Onen (Independent) is battling with other five candidates for the Omoro County seat including Andrew Ojok Oulanyah the NRM  flag bearer, Justine Odang Obiya, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Simon Toolit Akecha of National Unity Platform (NUP) Eng. Terence  Odanga ( Independent)  and Oscar Kizza of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT)

The  Omoro County seat was declared vacant by the  Electoral Commission after the death of former speaker of  Parliament Jacob  L'Okori Olanya who was the area Member of Parliament.

Oulanyah was a Ugandan agriculture economist, lawyer, and politician who served as the speaker of the 11th Parliament of Uganda.

He died on March 20, 2022, in US, Seattle where he was taken for cancer-related complications.
