URA meets Chinese chamber over taxation

Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and the Chinese Chamber of Commerce (CCC) held a consultative meeting at Hotel Africana Friday, May 20.
According to Michael Masembe, the manager of tax education, the purpose of the meeting was to help the chamber members understand the tax policy and tax regime.
The meeting which was graced by the Chinese Commercial Consular Jiang Jiging had ten participants in the category of Large Tax Payers.
“The challenges involved are not only specific to the chamber, but we have agreed to assist them to have information available in their preferred language,” he said.
The URA manager for tariffs, Alexander Rubanga, said: “I took them through tax relief, the duty structure of the EAC and told them about the duty remission scheme mainly granted to manufacturers.”
The spokesperson of the CCC and Sinocham, Joseph Zheng, said that tax interaction guided the community to understand the tax policy.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Uganda was established in 2009 and has 110 members.
