The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among amused members when she blasted colleagues who have been complaining of sh1m that was deducted from their salaries and taken to the late Jacob Oulanyah Education Fund.

Addressing MPs, Among wondered why members still complain about the deduction yet it was agreed upon in the House.

She requested those who have been hurt by the matter, to write down their names and take them to her for a refund.

“I have been following the sentiments some members have been making in regards to the sh1m we make towards the Jacob Oulanyah Education Foundation. The motion was discussed, adopted and the money was deducted and taken to the Fund,” she said.

“And it was an agreed position but if you find members talking like they have removed sh10b from them. I want to tell you, members, that the late Oulanyah used to be like you, and one day you will be like Oulanyah,” she added.

“ Why do you complain about sh1m? Those who are not happy with the sh1m, kindly register your names. Bring your names to my office and I will pay you cash. And I will come and read the names in the House that these are the people whom I have refunded their money,” Among said.

The Jacob Oulanyah Education Foundation was started by leaders and friends that are dedicated to preserving the legacy of fallen Parliament Speaker Jacob Oulanyah.

The Oulanyah Education Foundation is meant to support the Omoro County representative’s biological children and other dependents under his care to further their education.

Mourners heard that Oulanyah besides his biological children was paying school fees for about 200 primary secondary and university students across the country.

Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda asked government to explain why Kawempe North MP Ssegirinya Muhammad and Makindye Wesr MP Allan Ssewanyana have been detained for 8 months without trial.

The Chief Justice and a close confidant of the deceased Alfonse Owiny-Dollo said it was only prudent to set up an education trust fund where well-wishers that would preserve Oulanyah’s legacy can make a contribution that is professionally managed to support surviving children and dependants further their education.

According to Owiny-Dollo, education was dear to Oulanyah’s heart and therefore it was important that his wishes are sustained even in death.
