The graduation ceremony at St Lawrence University momentarily came to a standstill as a mother in celebration stormed the ground with loud ululation after her daughter’s name was announced as a first-class degree holder.

Sharon Aujo told this website that her mother is a single mother and laboured so much during the two-year COVID-19 lockdown to raise her tuition fees.

“The class of 2022 had two COVID-19 lockdowns which was a setback and when you come back the mind switches to many things including where the money will come from,” she said.

She added that patience and resilience also contributed a lot to her studies since she knew the background of her family.

I lived life knowing where I came from and I had goals to achieve academically.

My plan is to get a job in line with my profession which am passionate about, I would love to help people because many people are depressed including the prominent ones. This has led to suicide.

“When my mum carried me as the huge crowds looked on in awe, I became so emotional. I remembered how she laboured to get my tuition.

This cash award of sh500, 000 made me more emotional Auja explained.

Over 420 graduated during the 12th graduation ceremony at St Lawrence University in Rubaga.
