Pupil killed after fuel tanker loses tyre, bursts into flames

A fuel tank on Tuesday morning was burnt to ashes at Kididima village, Kigumba sub-county in Kiryandongo district.

According to an eyewitness the fuel tanker lost a tyre before the tanker caught fire

"A seven-year-old child has been injured after being knocked by the tyre that had jumped off a speeding vehicle," the eyewitness noted.

The child has been identified as Afoyorwoth, a primary one pupil of Kididima Primary School.

An eyewitness further noted that the accident occurred at around 7:00 am and that the tanker registration UBE 861H was coming from Kigumba heading towards Masindi when it lost control.

Another eyewitness added that the tyre was travelling at a high speed and knocked the child who was going to school at the time.

He further added that the pupil was rushed to Kididima Health Centre.

According to other eyewitnesses, the vehicle caught fire as a result of a fuel spill and that Police Fire Brigade from Kiryandongo extinguished the fire.

Allan Hakiza the Albertine region Police spokesperson confirmed the accident, adding that the child was later pronounced dead at Kididima Health Centre.
