The former Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, on Tuesday, received the casket of former Bank of Uganda Governor, Professor Tumusiime Mutebile, at Entebbe International Airport.

A brief prayer was delivered as Rugunda and relatives convened near the casket. Mutebile who was 72, died of diabetes in a Kenyan hospital on Sunday.

The casket was airlifted to Entebbe by Kenya Airways at 8 pm. On the same flight from Nairobi were close family led by the Governor’s wife, Betty Mutebile.

Other dignities at the airport included Chris Baryomunsi, the minister of information and a member of the funeral organising committee. 

Several police officers were part of the funeral team that handled the casket that was later loaded on a waiting hearse.

Several events have been scheduled preceding the burial on Sunday, January 30th.

There will be a vigil at the deceased’s home in Kololo on Wednesday evening, and then a session in Parliament on Thursday starting at 10:00 am. 

There will then be an official funeral at Kololo Independence Grounds starting at 10:00 am, and the body will be flown to Kabale over the weekend.

Burial will be held on Sunday starting at midday at Rugarama COU Cathedral in Kabale Municipality,” Baryomunsi said.

Mutebile, who was the longest-serving governor, will be accorded an official burial.
