PRISONS | MUSEVENI | PROMOTIONS 

KAMPALA - President Yoweri Museveni has promoted 71 Uganda Prisons Service officers to senior ranks within the force with six of them designated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner General of Prison.

The rank of Assistant Commissioner General is new in the prison ranks.

In a statement released on Monday, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija, the Commissioner-General of Prisons, noted that, “His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. Museveni, under Article 172 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and on advice from the Prisons Authority, Sections 10(c) and 20(1) of the Prisons Act, 2006, has re-designated six (6) Directors of Prisons to the rank of Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons and promoted a total of 65 (Sixty Five) Senior Prisons Officers to various ranks.”

Those re-designated to rank of Assistant Commissioner General of Prisons include Moses Katungye Bwijuka, David Nsalasata Sekabembe, Samuel Akena, Eli Muhumuza, Moses Kakungulu Wagabaza and David Ahimbisibwe Asiimwe.

Those appointed to the rank of Commissioner of Prisons include Stephen Lugonda, Amos Turyashaba, Francis Henry Tugume, Apollo Baker Asinjah, James Emotu and Moses Byenjura Kamugisha.

James Cockers Okiror and Rebecca Agnes Gabu were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioners of Prisons, while Bryan Corr Mbaziira and Hannington Nsubuga were appointed on accelerated promotion to the rank of Senior Superintendent of Prisons.

12 other staff were promoted to the rank of Senior Superintendents of Prisons, 38 to Superintendents of Prisons and Five to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons.

Byabashaija noted that all promotions are effective January 19, 2022.
