The Prime Minister of Uganda Robinah Nabbanja has today (Friday, January 21, 2022)  commissioned three tarmac roads that connect through the districts of Pallisa, Kibuku and Budaka in North Bukedi region.

Nabbanja who is also the Kakumiro Woman Member of Parliament commissioned roads that include Nakalama-Tirinyi-Mbale (99.3km), Kamonkoli-Pallisa (44km) and Tirinyi-Pallisa-Kumi (67km).

She said the commissioning of the three roads is in commemoration of the 36th anniversary of National Resistance Movement.

Rehabilitation works along the Nakalama-Tirinyi-Mbale road were done by Dott Services Limited while Arab Contractors worked on Kamonkoli-Pallisa and Pallisa- Kumi roads.

Executed works included road rehabilitation laid with asphalt, constructed reinforced concrete box culverts and installed cross pipe culverts among others.

Nabbanja thanked the government for tarmacking the roads and urged residents to bring their merchandise to markets located along the roads and sell them in order to improve their livelihoods.

While commissioning Kamonkoli-Pallisa road, the Prime Minister said that the 36 years of NRM have seen Uganda achieve a lot in areas of infrastructure as a result of stability and peace in Uganda.

She appealed to the leadership in the three districts of Pallisa, Budaka and Kibuku where the roads pass to mobilise residents not to steal road equipment like guard rails and signposts.

While on her way to Pallisa at Bulangira trading centre, Nabbanja's convoy was blocked by residents who were holding placards protesting the design of the road in the centre.

Residents demanded that the road be divided into a double carriageway with pavement in the middle to reduce the number of accidents that occur in the trading centre.

Nabbajja came out of her car through the open roof and promised residents that their issues would be considered by UNRA and will be worked on.

Before commissioning Nakalama-Tirinyi road, residents of Tirinyi who included Joshua Kiirya, requested UNRA to create access ways to houses of residents, work on the drainages and also consider tarmacking other small roads in Tirinyi town council among others.

Nabbanja later proceeded to Palliisa town and commissioned the Tirinyi-Pallisa-Kumi road.
