'Driver on the run' after Buikwe accident claims four lives

ACCIDENT
Police say a driver of a lorry is on the run after an accident involving his vehicle and a commuter taxi killed four people in Buikwe district on Friday.
The dead included three children.
The accident happened on the Jinja-Kampala highway in eastern Uganda.
In a statement, Sezibwa Region Police spokesperson Hellen Butoto said the lorry was moving from Jinja towards Kampala.
"It tried to dodge a head-on collision with a taxi, which was overtaking [from the opposite direction]. However, it knocked five pedestrians in the process, killing four on spot, and seriously injured one," said Police.
Police named the deceased as;
- Faith Akumu, aged 23, a resident of Nsakya A zone in Najjembe Division, Buikwe district
- Promise Awori, Akumu's one-year-old daughter
- Rose Anyango, 14, a resident of Najjembe in Buikwe district
- Shamila Kimono, who was three
The injured is eight-year-old Eric Ojara.
The bodies of the four were taken to Kawolo Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
"The hunt for the driver of the Tata lorry, who fled from the scene of the accident, is on," said Police.
