The Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng will at midday today brief the nation on Uganda's preparedness against the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron.

The variant has been reported in countries like South Africa, the United Kingdom among other countries.

Most countries have since put in place travel restrictions from affected countries.

It is against this background that Aceng will announce Uganda’s position on the matter.

"The Minister of Health Jane Ruth Aceng will address the country on the Omicron COVID-19 variant and the Ministry of Health measures to curb its importation," Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the senior spokesperson, in the health ministry said in a tweet.
