The administration of Muni University has moved to vaccinate its learners in a bid to boost immunity and prevent the further spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Muni vice chancellor Prof. Christine Dranzoa told Arua One Radio that 84% of the students at the university have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

This is in line with the directive from the education ministry for all higher learning institutions to vaccinate their students once they return to school.

Dranzoa advised the public to take advantage of the available vaccines and get vaccinated to protect them and their family members.

She noted that humans are difficult to deal with on such matters as they continue questioning everything but it is the responsibility of leaders to continue educating and explaining to those who are hesitant, to appreciate the importance of the vaccine.

“The university collected data on each student to ascertain the vaccine type they took during their time at home. This made it easy to organise further immunisation with Arua City health officials.

The public should look at high calibre personalities in the world and Uganda who took the vaccine and have not died,” she said.

Dranzoa said a number of students shared experiences of losing their close relatives to COVID-19 and this empowered them to willingly accept the vaccine to protect their lives and those of others.

Stella Wawa Amandru the Dean of Students at the university commended the Arua City health department headed by Dr Pontius Apangu for taking the mantle to ensure the institution secures vaccines for the students as well as clearing the doubts surrounding the vaccines.

Amandru said many of the students were taken through psychosocial counselling and guidance to change their mindset in the uptake of vaccines. The university staff equally embraced vaccination.
