The education ministry has launched the third phase of home study materials distribution in the Lango region.

The move is aimed at ensuring continuity of learning, providing remedial learning and reawakening the minds of learners.

Sports state minister Denis Hamson Obua launched the distribution of the materials at Alebtong Primary School in Alebtong town, Alebtong district.

He said the materials cater for P1, P4 and S5. The exercise attracted headteachers of both primary and secondary schools in the Lango region.

“As we plan to fully open educational institutions, we must vaccinate both teaching and non-teaching staff,” Obua said.

He added that the health ministry statistics indicate that 69% of teachers have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while those fully vaccinated are 25%.

He appealed to all Ugandans above the age of 18 years to get vaccinated.

Be examplary

“The best teachers change the mind and live by example,” Obua said.

He said headteachers are the first to see that all teachers are in school on time before other authorities are alerted on what is happening in the school.

He said the terms and conditions for the schools reopening will be availed by the First Lady and education minister in due course.

Alebtong education officer Moses Olwit said the district has 1,165 teachers and that only 616 have been fully vaccinated.

Alebtong chairperson David Kennedy Odongo appealed to the government to rehabilitate six primary schools whose roofs have been blown off by storms.
