President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the commander of the security forces, will on Friday pass out a total of 5,000 probational Police Constables.

At an event slated to take place at the Uganda Police Force training school, Kabalye, in Masindi District, the personnel are expected to start work immediately after the passout.

Sources said the personnel have been undergoing training for the last 12 months and have been drilled in several areas, including the community as the government pushes to address rising crimes in the country.

The constables are expected to beef up UPF's strength, currently standing at about 50,000.

According to police, the new 5000 officers form part of the required 10,000 officers whose recruitment was launched in the 2019 program to re-enforce the manpower gaps of the police force.

To be recruited for training, one must possess a Uganda Certificate of Education qualification with at least five credits, including English and mathematics.

Suitable applicants must be Ugandan citizens of good conduct aged between 18 and 25, without any criminal record, and are physically fit.
