Uganda on Saturday received 1,744,470 doses of the Pfizer vaccine as the country pushes to inoculate more citizens against COVID-19

Sheila Nduhukire, the spokesperson of the National Medical Stores, confirmed the development to New Vision on Sunday.

Earlier, the US Embassy in Uganda said more doses should be expected in the country, adding: “Together, we can defeat the virus.”

Uganda has so far administered 3.3 million doses of different vaccines, with the country targeting the vaccination of close to five million people ahead of the full reopening of the economy in January.

The East African country has registered 126,492 COVID-19 infections since the first case of the virus was registered last March. Of these, 96,845 have fully recovered while 3,226 died. Others remain active and are admitted to different health units.

The test positivity rate remains at 1.4%.
