President Yoweri Museveni is set to address the nation this Thursday, Lindah Nabusayi, the senior presidential press secretary has announced.

While breaking the news on her official Twitter handle, Nabusayi said, “The President will update the nation on the COVID-19 situation, among other related issues.”

His address will be broadcast live on all radio and television stations starting at 8 pm.

Museveni’s address comes in the wake of a weekend bomb attack at an eating joint in Komamboga in Uganda's capital Kampala, which left a waitress dead and three other people seriously injured.

In a bid to control the spread of COVID-19, bars and other recreation facilities were barred from operating until further notice.

The justification for the closure according to Museveni was that intoxicated people could not control themselves after consuming alcohol.

The movement of people was also restricted from 5 am to 7 pm.

However, countries like neighbouring Kenya have since opened the economy fully after they achieved a certain threshold of vaccinating the public.

Uganda has so far administered a total of 2,5688,361 COVID-19 vaccines to its at most risk population, as of October 22, 2021.

Uganda plans to vaccinate up to 22million of its population against COVID-19 to achieve herd immunity. This is meant to be done in a phased manner, beginning with most at risk
