The High Court in Masaka has declined to grant MPs Muhammed Ssegirinya (Kawempe North) and his counterpart Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) bail.

The two MPs, that are currently on remand at Kigo Prison, are members of opposition Party,  National Unity Platform (NUP).

"Hon. Ssegirinya Muhammad and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana have been denied bail by the High Court in Masaka," NUP, confirmed the development in a Twitter post Monday Morning.

The duo through their lawyers Shamim Malende and Erias Lukwago had a few weeks ago applied for bail to seek specialised medical attention outside the prison.

However, in a ruling on Monday Morning, the court presided over by Justice Lawrence Tweyanze has asked prison authorities to ensure that the MPs get the required medical services from any government facility.

According to Tweyanze the state had proved that the MPs would interfere with the investigations.

The MPs and their co-accused persons are facing seven counts.

Four of murder, attempted murder, terrorism, aiding and abetting terrorism, all arising out of their alleged participation in the recent spate of killings of 26 people in Masaka sub region.
