Nakawa division to vaccinate over 15,000 in two days

Nakawa division is set to vaccinate over 15,000 people in two days, as part of the campaign to vaccinate five million vulnerable Ugandans.

The mass vaccination that will take place on Saturday and Sunday (October 23-24) is aimed at vaccinating at least over 5,000 people daily according to Christopher Oundo, District Health Officer Nakawa.

“Our urgent call to vaccinate all persons who are 50 years above,  all teachers, people who have underlines health problems especially people with high blood pressure, HIV, diabetes, and others by January 2022 when Government opens up the economy,’ Oundo said.

Oundo revealed this during a consultative meeting aimed at bringing together all Nakawa local leaders including security agencies as they prepare for the mass vaccination on Saturday at Nakawa division.

He noted that for two days the ministry has organised enough does including Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

"The 10 parishes that will take lead in mobilising people to embrace vaccination will be awarded’’ Baingana said.

He  called upon Ugandans to embrace COVID-19 vaccination as it’s aimed at making Ugandans safe.

Uganda Breweries also partnered with Nakawa division to take part in the campaign by facilitating nurses who will be responsible for vaccinating and sensitising people.

During the meeting,  Nakawa division launched mass vaccination and many chairpersons took their first COVID-19 jab.

While addressing Ugandans recently, President Museveni said the only ultimate solution to COVID-19 is vaccination and Uganda needs to vaccinate at least 4.8 million people before COVID-19 measures can be relaxed.
