The Betway Kobs continued to exercise their monopoly on the Guinness 7s rugby tournament by winning the Soroti 7s circuit on Saturday.

Kobs this time beat Heathens 14-0 in the final of the Soroti 7s at Soroti Stadium to win their third consecutive circuit to stay on top of the table with 66 points.

The excited Kobs teams captain Joseph Aredo attributed the win to teamwork and focus.

“I’m happy we are improving our game day by day and our target is now on the next circuit in Kabale where shall be out for a win,” Aredo said.

The Legends Kampala-based side has maintained an unbeaten run in all three circuits and wants to maintain that in their title defence.

Kobs got a penalty try after Heathens Nobert Okenyi infringed on Kobs' Alhaji Manano to get a 7 -0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Heathens put up a spirited fight, but the champions were more charged and just added another try to seal off the score 14-0.

In the semi-final, Kobs smashed Toyota Buffaloes 32-0 while Heathens edged Stanbic Pirates 10-5 in a tightly grueling semi-final.

Guinness brand manager Elizabeth Mutamuliza was impressed with the good facilities in the upcountry regions and urged the government to protect and develop them.

“We as Guinness are committed to supporting rugby 7s as a brand and we look forward to watching more games outside Kampala because it is not all about selling our brand but creating opportunities to talented future stars,” Mutamuliza said.

Uganda Rugby Union president Godwin Kayangwe said that the union is committed to taking the sport to the grassroots, and more tournaments are coming.
