With the mid-season break coming up because of the preparations for the Africa Netball Cup, it was imperative that the women’s Super League Division one ended in style on Saturday.

NIC proved once again that they are the team to beat as they dismantled the exuberant Makindye Weyonje to stay top of the table.

The defending champions were in physical shape to put to bed all of Weyonje’s best plans. A fit they accomplished with a herculean effort.

“The passion these young players showed for the game put our team under pressure and made them competitive. This is why I am advising some of our senior players to go back to their past and tap into that competitive spirit,” said NIC coach Vincent Kiwanuka.

NIC captain Joan Nampungu attributed the win to the amount of practice the girls have been putting in the last few weeks.

The game was tough because Weyonje has some good players on their team. They have good coaches and good facilities but we made sure that we won the game. We have been training with both the national team and our teammates who haven’t been called up were training even harder,”  Nampungu admitted.

The back peddlers like UCU, UPDF, and UG X Luwero all picked up their first wins of the season. UCU proved too strong for Posta as they emerged 69-31 victors. Posta who had earlier in the day lost to Luwero.  UPDF finally ended their bad start to the season after they registered a 54-31 victory over KBK.
