The Uganda Red Cross Society is backing the government in mobilising communities to get jabs in the COVID-19 vaccination drive.

Irene Nakasiita the public relations officer at the Uganda Red Cross Society said they are working with many volunteers to mobilise people and also answer questions relating to the vaccine.

Nakasiita said they are complementing the government, the Ministry of Health, KCCA, local authorities and other stakeholders involved in the COVID-19 vaccination to support the campaign to see that Ugandans go for vaccination in large numbers.

Nakasiita noted that vaccines have expiry dates and so they need to be used before they expire.

President Yoweri Museveni tasked resident district and city commissioners in their jurisdictions, as well as chief administrative officers and district health officers, to intensify mobilisation of communities to boost vaccine uptake.

Museveni has warned the officials that if expired vaccines are found in districts they will be disciplined and possibly dismissed.
