Police on Monday evening confirmed they had re-arrested Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammed Ssegirinya.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said, "we want to inform the public that Hon Ssegirinya Mohammad has also been rearrested on fresh charges of treason and incitement to violence by the joint security task team of investigators.

He has been transferred to the Special Investigations Division, in Kireka for further statement recording and action,” Enanga said.

Ssegirinya was arrested at the Kigo prison shortly after he was released on bail bundled up in a drone and taken away.

Shamim Malende, the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament who is also Ssegirinya’s lawyer noted that the legislator was pulled out of her car.

"He was pulled out of my car as we exited prison and taken to an unknown place," Malende said.

Ssegirinya’s re-arrest follows a similar incident on Thursday last week when his fellow legislator and Makindye West Member of Parliament Allan Ssewanyana was re-arrested.

The army noted that they had received fresh evidence pinning Ssewanyana in the recent killings in Masaka.
