Every athlete has a different script that defines their personality, and to Clinton Kamugisha, generosity is all that describes his character.

A day after his team Nyamityobora FC were denied a chance to the top-flight after losing to eventual slot winners Gaddafi FC 4-0 at Njeru, Kamugisha came out to show a generous heart for his teammates.

The Nyamityobora captain who emerged the Big League top scorer with 13 goals was awarded a golden boot and a sh1m cash prize which he says he will share with his teammates and mother.

“I thank them for the team spirit, and without them, I wouldn’t have scored all the goals. I will share some with them, and the rest I will share with my mum because she has been so supportive,” Kamugisha said.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder who is among the few players that stayed another season with many having left the cash-strapped Nyamityobora proved his worth with a composed performance that saw him overrun on-form Tooro United striker Oshaba Marvin who finished second with nine goals.

“I have to believe in hard work, and I thank the players and the technical staff because without their support I wouldn’t have won anything. Winning the golden boot is the best feeling right now,” Kamugisha says.

Nyamityobora FC has faced a rough season with immense financial constraints that have seen players and coaches go months without pay, leading to head coach Richard Makumbi's resignation on Sunday after his side lost 4-0 in the semifinal playoffs to Gadaffi FC.

Kamugisha, who has had a silent but unique football career, joined the likes of Ivan Bogele (Proline), Dicken Okwir (Paidha Black Angels), Patrick Kaddu (Maroons), Edrisa Lubega (Proline), and Fred Kalanzi (Lweza FC) to storm the podium for the prestigious accolade.

Nicknamed ‘Davico’ Kamugisha’s talent was first spotted by Mbarara Sports Academy after leading Ryakasinga CHE to several Copa Coca Cola Ankole region titles before he later joined Nyamityobora FC for which he played a pivotal role in its maiden promotion to the top flight in 2016.

He later joined top-flight side Mbarara City FC but was loaned at Wakiso Giants which he also helped to their maiden top-flight in 2018.
