Arua Hills clinches FUFA Big League title

Arua Hills emerged the FUFA Big League champions after defeating ten-man Tooro United 1-0 at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

Rashid Kawawa put Arua Hills in the lead after 25 minutes thanks to setup from Ceaser Okhuti.

Towards the end of the first half, Tooro United upped the ante in search of an equaliser but towering defender Mike Kawooya was on hand to thwart most of attempts.

In the second half, Tooro United was the better side but failed to take advantage of clear cut chances to level matters.

Arua Hills thought it’s doubled its lead in the 68th minute but Brian Ade’s effort was ruled out for offside.

Tooro’s hopes of an equaliser evaporated after Patrick Sserujongi was sent off in the 86th minute for elbowing defender Aggrey Kirya.

Both sides had already automatically qualified for the Uganda Premier League where they will be joined by Gaddafi FC who defeated Proline 2-0 in the playoff final.

Stephen Munguchi of Gaddafi was named the most valuable player while Arua Hills goalkeeper Richard Anyama who kept 13 clean sheets and conceded only seven goals throughout the season was named the best goalkeeper.

Clinton Kamugisha of Nyamityobora FC finished as the top scorer with 12 goals.

The fair play award was awarded to Ndejje University.
