The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leadership is said to be in a sharp division over the replacement of the former vice-president for Buganda region, Joyce Ssebugwawo.

Sebugwawo was appointed State Minister of Information Communication Technology and National Guidance (ICT&NG), a position she received willfully.

While addressing journalists this week, the FDC party president, Eng Patrick Amuriat Oboi, said by accepting to join President Yoweri Museveni's cabinet, meant that she had decided to exit the party by herself.

He noted that the party had started the process to replace her position among other vacant positions, and were to hold a high-level committee to front the names this week.

However, according to a senior official who preferred to speak on condition of anonymity, said leaders were still divided on the choice.

Without, disclosing any name, the source revealed that some members prefer a person who has been a loyal party member for over 10 years, while others want someone who has command in the region to win them votes in the next election.

Another person said many fingers were pointing to the Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, saying he still has an upper hand in Kampala and other parts of the region.

"But some senior leaders are saying Lukwago just joined the party and it would be very unfair to leave out those who have working for the party over the years," he said.

The source revealed that some leaders suggested that the mandate should be left for the party members to decide through an election.

When contacted about the issue, the party’s deputy spokesperson, John Kikongo distanced himself from the rumours saying process was still ongoing and the party will be communicating at the right time.
