For all and sundry, I think that there’s no other Ugandan living today who has served this country so diligently and with a passion like retired Justice George Kanyeihamba. This fountain of honour has on several occasions volunteered advice to both the ruling government regarding on issues pertinent to the Uganda we all dream of, yet which many of us vehemently continue to defile so carelessly.

Reading through his articles in the media and his addresses at various fora, one cannot fail to notice rage and fury. Save for the Mukiga in him, Justice Kanyeihamba has attained all possible accolades the judicial profession has to offer both on the local and international scenes.

As such, his professional acumen while addressing issues he believes very much impact the health of a country he’s so devoutly served for over 40 years, cannot be overstated. For those of us who look at him with so much admiration, our role is simple; listen to and act on his words of wisdom.

Justice Kanyeihamba’s message has consistently been clear: That an independent judiciary is an important key for the prosperity of mother Uganda; and that corruption is like a cancer, which, if not dealt with at an early stage, will definitely cause our country to perish. Well, one may choose to say that what Justice Kanyeihamba is saying, others too have said. However, for someone who has had a chance to live and work one foot during the so-called bad regimes and another in the present, his analysis of the trend of events and prospects (or lack of) for the future can only but be perfectly balanced.

There’s perhaps one other reason why anyone should pay attention to Justice Kanyeihamba’s words of wisdom- at his age, there’s no way whatsoever that he could be having any grain of personal interest in the politics of Uganda. In any case, having faced the blunt of the so-called bad regimes, he would be the last to want this country to stoop that low ever again.

My advice to the ruling Uganda government is to be thankful to the oldies of our time like Justice Kanyeihamba. Such people are invaluable diamonds whose wealth of ingenuity is unrivaled, and whose foundation may take ages to rebuild once destroyed. In fact, it is such people that ought to be consulted on which direction Uganda ought to take to attain glory.

I must personally thank Justice Kanyeihamba for selflessly dedicating his time even after retirement to offer guidance both to the young and old generation of our time.
