Bombo mourns veteran Gaagaa bus driver

Hundreds of mourners Wednesday turned up for the funeral of Marsal Ayubu, the veteran bus driver who died after sustaining serious injuries in the Monday accident at Nakasongola along the Gulu Highway.

Ayubu, who died at Mulago national referral hospital where he was receiving treatment was last evening buried at his ancestral home in Bombo, 21 miles from Kampala, along the Gulu Highway.

Ayubu was an experienced driver, who had worked with several establishments, including the Uganda Transport Company (1970-80s).

He also plied  the Kampala -Bujumbula  route. The last nine year he has been working for Gaaga Bus Company.          

Robert Remo, the manager of Gaagaa Bus Company, said  Ayubu was a founding driver of their transport business which began in 2007.

The company"s proprietor James Nyakuni reportedly referred to Ayubu as 'the first born'.           

Remo described Ayubu as 'a dear employee' who had a sharp eye for safety of his passengers and other road users.

Ayubu who is survived by three widows and several children is the ninth victim to be claimed by the accident in which seven people died on spot and injured 19.
