TWO UPDF junior officers who failed to account for 1,000 live ammunitions missing from the armoury in Somalia have been charged with the offence of failure to protect war materials.

Capt. Bosco Mwanga, formerly the battery commander of the air defense component of the UPDF and Lt. David Eloku, previously the platoon commander in 31 infantry battalion at Kilometre 50 in Somalia, were charged before the General Court Martial chaired by Maj. Gen. Levy Karuhanga in Makindye, a Kampala suburb, on Tuesday.

State prosecutors, Capt. Fredrick Kangwamu and Lt. Ambrose Baguma alleged that the accused junior officers misused 1,000 live ammunitions at Kilometer 50 by improperly disposing them from the armoury between February and March this year.

Mwanga and Eloku, who were part of the UPDF battle group thirteen currently deployed in Somalia, pleaded not guilty to the charges. They were remanded to Makindye Military Police Prison until September 16.
