Africa U-17 Championship qualifiers

Friday

Rwanda v Uganda

Saturday 2015 AFCON Qualifier

Rwanda v Congo

The Uganda Cubs were forced to embark on the journey to Rwanda earlier than planned after Federation of Rwanda Football Associations (FERWAFA) rescheduled their Africa Under-17 Championship qualifier for Friday instead of Saturday.

FERWAFA has also moved the return leg of the second round qualifier 164km away from their capital Kigali to Rubavu District in its Western Province.

The squad of 18 players and five officials left by road Tuesday afternoon and will camp for a day in Kabale town bordering Rwanda in Western Uganda before completing the journey to Rubavu on Thursday.

FERWAFA argue that the match was brought forward because their main stadium Amahoro is under renovation and they cannot host the Rwanda senior team’s AFCON qualifier and the Under-17 game on the same day at the second biggest stadium, Nyamirambo.

The Rwandans had scheduled the fixture for Saturday and communicated to FUFA but over the weekend FUFA got another communication rescheduling the match for Friday and quickly arranged for the Cubs to head to Rwanda.

According to the FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson, FERWAFA has written to Uganda arguing that floodlights at Nyamirambo are down and so cannot allow a double header like it was in the first leg in Kampala.
