Criminal Investigations Intelligence Department (CIID) director, Grace Akullo, is awaiting a report from the Land Protection Unit on allegations that the DPP, Mike Chibita, directed the eviction of Boney Mwebesa Katatumba from Hotel Diplomate at Muyenga.

The New Vision had sought for a comment on the progress in the investigations that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed the eviction of Kampala businessman Katatumba Kampala from Hotel Diplomate.

The DPP, Justice Chibita, has since denied that he had had any hand in the matter. He told The New Vision that he did not even have mandate to order the eviction of Katatumba leave alone any other person.

“As soon as the story came out of the paper, I called the chief of the CIID, Grace Akullo, and informed that a forgery had occurred and; that she should investigate it. However, I have not had a feed back about the progress. However, the good thing about the whole matter is that the reporter, who wrote the story, has been known,” Chibita told The New Vision.

In a telephone interview with The New Vision on Monday on how much progress she had made into the investigations, Akullo said that she was in Kasese on official duties, but; she would seek for an update from the head of the Police Land Protection Unit, Julius Twinomujuni, upon return to Kampala from Kasese.

Katatumba, who is also the Pakistan Consul in Kampala, is embroiled in a sharp civil legal battle with a fellow Kampala businessman, Mukesh Shukla, managing director of a manufacturing company Shumuk (U) Ltd, over ownership of Hotel Diplomate and the former Blacklines House situated along Coleville Street in the city centre of Kampala.

Shukla claims ownership of the two properties, alleging that Katatumba transferred their titles into his companies’ names after failing to repay a debt of USD4m, which he borrowed from him.
