The Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr Charles Kasibante has asked Ugandans to avoid misunderstanding culture.

He said that as Uganda prepares to celebrate the Uganda Martyrs' 50 years anniversary since their canonisation by Pope Paul VI, all Christians should strive to emulate them by avoiding western cultures that intend to divert them to adopting non-African cultures.

“Our cultures are good and were given to us by our parents but some tendencies have crept up to abuse them by mixing them up with satanic ones,” Msgr Kasibante said.

Speaking on Saturday at Nabbingo Catholic Parish, in Wakiso district where he led a team sensitizing Christians about the 22 Uganda martyrs and upcoming Golden Jubilee celebrations, Kasibante said that many people have started confusing others to follow these alien cultures.

Among the team were Pastoral coordinators of Kampala Archdiocese, Fr Dr Mark Richard Ssajjabi, the promoter of Uganda Martyrs in Kampala Archdiocese Fr Joseph Mukasa-Muwonge, Brother Fr Anatoli Wasswa from Kiteredde in Masaka.

The others included Devita Nabukalu, a former witchdoctor who gave testimony on how she duped unsuspecting people and extorted money from them when she was well aware that what she practiced was not effective at all.

Revocato Kalema who was born lame, but later got cured through the intercession of the 22 Uganda Martyrs, is also in the team.

Kasibante advised Christians always to take the example of the Uganda Martyrs who rebelled against bad cultures because of their faith.

He said that the Martyrs are good example to each and every one who can always be called upon for intercession.

The Parish priest of Nabbingo, Fr Deogracious Bukenya thanked the sensitization team for the good work and also thanked Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga who started the campaign to sensitise Christians about the Uganda Martyrs.

The Mass was also attended by the former Rector of St Mbagga Seminary Ggaba, Msgr Alex Kamya and Fr Augustine Kimera.
