DANIEL Baguma was Uganda’s best performer on day-one as the19th edition of the All-Africa Junior Golf Challenge teed off on Monday at the Chainama Hills Golf Club in Zambia.
Baguma returned 75 gross to tie in 5th place with South Africa’s Kyle McClantchie, and Zimbabwe’s Vincent Kieran.
Andrew Byaruhanga scored 77, Denis Otim 79 with Ronald Otile returning the worst score of the day, 87.
In the team Standings, Uganda is joint third with Reunion with an aggregate of 231.
Golfers from 12 African countries are in contention with defending champions South Africa intent on maintaining their dominance in the four day stroke play competition.
Last year Uganda finished 4th in Mauritius and left the country on Friday night intent of improving that position.
The Deo Akope led team will have to contend with golfers from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi, Mauritius, Kenya, Uganda, Tunisia, the Reunion Islands and Swaziland.
Only the best three scores of each team count.
On Sunday, the participating teams held their practice rounds in morning before the flag lowering and official opening later in the day.
