THE Attorney General’s (AG) representative state attorney Martin Mwambutsya, has accused Erias Lukwago of putting the image of the judiciary in disrepute.

In his submissions on Thursday to the Supreme Court, Mwambutsya described as unfortunate claims that Justice Kavuma denied Lukwago the right to be heard.

The court had convened to hear an application by Lukwago, demanding that he be reinstated as Lord Mayor, pending the outcome of an appeal challenging Justice Kavuma’s decision.

In the March 31 ruling, Justice Steven Kavuma of the Court of Appeal, issued an order restraining Lukwago from performing functions of Kampala Lord Mayor.

Mwambutsya said Lukwago did not make a formal application to appear before Kavuma.

He noted that if Lukwago felt aggrieved by Kavuma’s conduct, and that the ruling was made by a single Justice of appeal, he should have lodged his complaint with the Judicial Service Commission.

“By saying that his matters were frustrated by Justice Kavuma,is a lie.He is giving false evidence on oath. He has not spared the integrity of the judiciary in his scheme,” Mwambutsya stated.

The panel of five justices comprised Galdino Okello, Benjamin Odoki, Esther Kisaakye, Wilson Tsekooko, and Christine Kitumba.

But Lukwago’s legal team comprising Abdu Katuntu, Caleb Alaka, Julius  Galisonga, Samuel Muyizzi,  Abdullah  Kiwanuka, and Jude Mbabaali, maintained that it  was convenient for Lukwago to petition the Supreme Court to seek justice that he felt cannot be granted at the  Court of Appeal.

Ruling will be delivered on notice.
