The blockage of opposition gatherings and radio talk shows is an indication that the multiparty dispensation in Uganda is a falsehood; former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Dr. Kizza Besigye has said.

He made the remarks at a joint opposition and Civil Society press conference held at the FDC party headquarters at Najjanankumbi in Kampala.

DP president Norbert Mao, UPC president Olara Otunnu, FDC president Gen. Mugisha Muntu, Dr. Kizza Besigye and Bishop Zac Niringiye accused the government and police for violating their fundamental rights and freedoms.

FDC president Gen Mugisha Muntu narrated incidents over the weakened when police stopped their gatherings in Kabale and Kasese. Police also stopped their radio programs.

The UPC president said whereas they wrote and sent a letter to the Internal Affairs minister Gen. Aronda Nyakairima and the IGP Kale Kaihura last Thursday requesting to meet them; they have not yet got any reply.

However, Police Spokesperson, Judith Nanakooba, told New Vision that the opposition leaders did not follow the procedures stipulated in the Public Order and Management Act.

Speaking on behalf of the Civil Society, Bishop Niringiye urged all religious leaders, NRM patriotic leaders and all other influential Ugandans to rise up and speak out against the political injustices in the country.
