National Resistance Movement (NRM) mayoral candidates have pledged to promote the party among city dwellers.

The four candidates who held a joint rally at St. Paul primary school Nsambya on Wednesday in Kampala told voters that it was high time the party took over the city leadership.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is to conduct a by-election to fill up the Kampala mayoral seat, which became vacant in November after former Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was impeached by city councillors.

Peter Sematimba noted that they needed to change tactics since the recent national polls showed that their party was unpopular in the city.

“The city has to go to the hands of the ruling party and this can only be done when the members trust the leadership of the city in the hands of a capable leader. By sending me to the city hall, the party would gain more popularity because I have the experience,” Sematimba said.

Fred Kazibwe said was confident that the support from the youth would guarantee him victory.

“Among the candidates I am the only person who understands the problems of the youth, I promise to attract all of the young people in Kampala to our party because I know the language they speak.”

Muhammad Kasule, promised to promote the young talents.

“By promoting and improving the talents of our youth is a move that make would people like and join our party. This would not only make our party stronger but a party that would lead this city for some good time,” Kasule said.

They asked their voters to turn up in big numbers on Sunday March 30, 2014 and vote for NRM flag bearer in city mayoral race.
