Students tipped on oil opportunities

Makerere University students have been tipped on opportunities for business development and employment in oil industry.


The training was conducted by Total Uganda staff during the launch of oil gas week at Makerere University on Tuesday.

The managing director, Total Uganda Imrane Barry explained to the students that the oil and gas week is aimed at promoting education through expansion of students’ knowledge and fostering capacity building in the nascent oil and gas industry.

The training will also enlighten students on perspective of career options associated with oil and gas industry.

“Total Uganda is proud to work in collaboration with Makerere University in the area of promoting education and fostering capacity building for the nascent oil and gas industry,” Barry said.

The students were tipped in the areas of health and safety, contract and procurement, human resource, business development.

Other areas covered are geology, drilling and testing, environment impact assessment and marketing as well as management.

“You should do environment impact assessment on the site you are going to construct oil depot,” Joseph Magero the company’s engineering manager told students.

He also implored students that detailed design and drawings are necessary when mapping up the site depot.
